BSB: Ducks’ Bats Quieted as Oregon Can’t Complete Sweep of California

Oregon (14-8, 2-4) could not finish off a three-game sweep of California (13-9, 1-5), falling to the Golden Bears 5-3 on Sunday at PK Park in Eugene, Oregon. After tying a season high with 12 hits in both games on Saturday’s doubleheader, the Ducks’ offense went cold against Cal’s Sunday starter Matt Ladrech (2-3), who kept Oregon’s bats in check, allowing just one run through five-and-one-third innings on four hits, while striking out six and walking none en route to the victory. Oregon scored two runs in the ninth, but could not push the game to extras. Freshman Kolby Somers (1-2) started for the Ducks and went a career-long five-and-two-thirds innings, but suffered the defeat after allowing five runs (only two of which were earned) on six hits with three strikeouts and two walks. Oregon hosts San Francisco on Monday for one game before traveling to the Bay Area for a series vs. the Stanford Cardinal.
