Oregon Baseball Cruises to 6-0 Victory Behind an Explosive 3rd Inning

By Knight Jarecki

The Oregon Ducks defeated the Seattle Redhawks by a score of 6-0 Friday night. The win improves the Ducks record to 9-0 at PK Park under coach Mark Wasikowski.

The first couple of innings were scoreless before the Ducks offense exploded in the bottom of the 3rd inning scoring 6 runs on 5 hits. The inning was highlighted by a Josh Kasevich 2-run home run and a Tanner Smith RBI triple that came after a Gabe Matthews reached on ground rule double. The Ducks registered 5 of their 8 hits of the game in the game during the 3rd inning.

While the hitting in the 3rd inning proved to be the difference, the story of the game was the pitching for the Ducks as Junior Peyton Fuller had 3 strikeouts in 7 scoreless innings pitched giving up only 5 hits. True Freshman Rio Britton pitched 2 no-hit innings in the 8th and 9th with a walk and 2 strikeouts including striking out Grant Heiser looking to solidify the victory.

Josh Kasevich finished 2-4 with 2RBI’s off the 2 run homer. Bryce Boettcher went 2-3 with an RBI in the winning effort.

The Ducks move to (2-0) on the season as they have 2 more games scheduled against Seattle this weekend. Seattle falls to (2-3) on the year after beginning the year (2-1) against Portland.
