FB| Oregon Trounces Utah in Pac-12 Championship Eruption

Oregon (11-2, 8-1) will be participating in the 106th Rose Bowl Game on January 1st, 2019 after claiming a decisive 37-15 win over Utah (11-2, 8-1) in the Pac-12 Championship Game on Friday night. Against the nation’s top rush defense, Oregon rushed for 239 yards, the most allowed by Utah this season, and three touchdowns. CJ Verdell led the way for Oregon, as his 208 rushing yards and three touchdowns solidified his spot in Oregon history as the third Duck to ever rush for 1000-plus yards in his freshmen and sophomore campaigns.

With a variety of play-calling and proper execution of the calls, Oregon ran out of the gates, shocking the country’s fifth-ranked team by building up a 20-point halftime advantage. Those 20 first-half points were the most the Utes gave up all season long. Oregon’s defense suffocated the conference’s top third-down offense, holding Utah without a third-down conversion in the first half.

With the win, Oregon earned their eight ever Rose Bowl birth and the first since the 2015 semi-final win over Florida State. The 37-15 win solidified Oregon’s third-ever Pac-12 Championship game win in as many tries.
