WSOC | Oregon Soccer Must Settle for a Draw Against Portland in Double Overtime

Oregon Soccer remains unbeaten in 5 games after a 2-2 draw with in-state foe Portland. Head Coach Kat Mertz had the opportunity to pick up her 100th career win as a coach but fell short when the Ducks could not muster a goal after the first half. 17 minutes into the game starting freshman striker Ally Cook got the Ducks on the board via a toe-poke past Jenny Wahlen. The Pilots responded quickly when MJ Roe dribbled into the box and set up fullback Kimberly Hazlett perfectly at the back post in the 26th minute. The Ducks, who are 1-16-1 historically against the Pilots, went back on top with minutes to go in the first half when striker Eden Hardy scored her first regular-season goal as a Duck. Oregon out-shot Portland 10-6, but Swedish keeper Jenny Wahlen stood tall in the second half and was supported when her squad scored a goal in the 71st minute off a rebound. Oregon and Portland went to double overtime but neither squad had high-quality chances resulting in Oregon going 3-1-3 on the season while Portland moves to 2-1-2. The Ducks have a 9-day rest before battling the University of Buffalo at Pape Field next Sunday.
