MBB: Oregon Experiences Heartbreak Against Rival Washington

In the most heartbreaking way possible, the Washington Huskies get their first win in Eugene since 2010 beating Oregon 61-56. With 19 seconds remaining and the score tied at 56, Dana Altman called a timeout to draw up a potentially game winning shot. That play never happened. Instead with 3 seconds left, Junior Payton Pritchard slipped and turned the ball over Washington’s David Crisp picked it up and was heading the other way. In a half court heave attempt, Pritchard caught Crisp’s right arm and sent him to the free throw line to shoot three free throws, The rest was history, Crisp made all three free throws and Washington went on to win the game.
After Francis Okoro made the game’s first basket, Washington went on a 13-0 run. Oregon headed into halftime down 27-19. Those 19 points were Oregon’s second lowest amount of points in a half all season. No Ducks had double digit points and only 3 Oregon players scored. King had 9, Okoro had 4, and Norris had 6. As a team, they had a measly 2 offensive rebounds.
Oregon was playing from behind nearly all night. They took the lead back with 4:11 left in the game with a Pritchard 3 to put the Ducks up 52-51. It went back and forth from their on out. Oregon went up 56-51, but a 3 and a jumper from Nowell tied it up at 56. Thybulle missed a corner three with around 25 seconds to go in the game and that is when Dana Altman called a timeout to set up a game-winner. As a team, Oregon rallied back from double digits to take the lead, but it was not enough. As a team, they shot 47% from the field and 38% from three.
UP NEXT: Oregon will look to bounce back as they take on Washington State Sunday at 5 pm.
