WBB | Ionescu Breaks NCAA Triple-Double Record, UO Rolls 82-36 Over Air Force

Sabrina Ionescu stayed in the spotlight for no. 7 Oregon Women’s Basketball, earning her NCAA-leading 13th triple-double with 17 points, 11 rebounds, and 13 assists to lead the Ducks past Air Force 82-36 on Thursday, December 20. The triple-double pushed the junior guard past former BYU men’s guard Kyle Collinsworth for the all-time record.

Ionescu piled on the rebounds and assists early, with 7 and 9, respectively, by the midway point in the 2nd quarter. Forward Ruthy Hebard led the game with 20 points on a flawless 9-9 performance from the floor, tacking on 5 boards and 3 assists to boot. Hebard led UO from the get-go, scoring 7 of her points in the first quarter. However, it took time for Oregon, absent head coach Kelly Graves during his two-game suspension, to lock in offensively. The Falcons, who went 3-6 on early three-point attempts, brought the score within 4 at 22-18 just 6:16 from halftime.

That’s when Oregon went on a run, ripping off a 26-4 run over the next 9:36 bleeding into the 3rd quarter. Leading 48-22, the Ducks coasted to the finish line as the crowd urged Ionescu towards her stat-line. Forward Satou Sabally put up an efficient 19 points and 8 boards, while guard Erin Boley rounded out Oregon scoring with 11 points and 4 rebounds. UO (10-1) moved to double-digit wins on the season, following their behemoth win over no. 4 Mississippi State with an assured victory. Oregon closes out their non-conference slate against UC Irvine on Friday, December 21 at noon, before Graves can return to the sideline for the Ducks in their conference opener against Washington on Friday, January 4 in Matthew Knight Arena.
