AUDIO: Oregon Football Looks to Niu and Simms to Replace Injured Apelu

Oregon football’s defense may be catching the Utah offense at just the right time after the Utes’ starting quarterback Tyler Huntley suffered a season ending broken collarbone last week in the team’s loss to Arizona State. The Ducks will lean on its defense to continue its momentum from last week’s win over UCLA, when Oregon forced three turnovers that its offense turned into 21 points the other way. But Oregon will have to do it without starting inside linebacker and senior leader Kaulana Apelu, who suffered a leg injury and will miss the remainder of the regular season. Stepping up in his place are Sampson Niu and Keith Simms, who both need to be ready to help junior Troy Dye secure the front against the Pac-12’s no. 2 rusher in Zach Moss. Listen below to head coach Mario Cristobal, associate head coach and defensive coordinator Joe Salave’a, plus Sampson Niu, who all addressed the media following Wednesday morning’s practice.
