WSOC | Oregon Loses 2-1 Heartbreaker to Arizona State

Oregon Soccer fell to the Arizona State Sun Devils 2-1 in overtime after a last second goal by Marleen Schimmer. The Ducks came into this one hoping to snap their seven game losing streak. The match showed promise for Oregon, as Emma Eddy found the back of the net on a cross in the third minute. Oregon went on to dominate that half with lots of chances despite just the 1-0 lead. The Ducks had a 7-0 advantage on corner kicks in that half. Arizona State came back tough in a very back-and-forth second half. After hitting the post in the 56th minute, Marleen Schimmer scored the opening goal for the Sun Devils to tie the game 1-1. This came right after Bayley Bruner had a wide open chance that got blocked by a Sun Devil defender and ruined the chance to go up 2-0. In the 85th minute, Hannah Taylor played hero for the Ducks as she came flying in to save a potential wide open ASU goal, keeping the game at 1-1 and sending it to overtime. 20 minutes of overtime brought nothing but thrills as both teams were getting incredible chances, only to be salvaged by the opposing defense. Just as we thought this match would deservedly end in a draw, Marleen Schimmer scored in the last 20 seconds to secure the game for the Sun Devils. The loss now puts Oregon at eight losses in a row and 1-8 in conference. On the bright side for Oregon, star forward Marissa Everett returned from injury in this match after missing the last five. Everett played 24 minutes in total. Up next for the Ducks is a home match against Arizona at 12:00 PM on Sunday.
