FB | No. 19 Oregon Defeats No. 24 Cal in First Road Test

The Oregon Ducks took to the road for the first time all season, heading south to Berkley to take on the California Golden Bears in a game that saw improvements on both sides of the ball as the Ducks pulled out a victory 42-24. After last week’s heartbreaking loss to Stanford, all eyes were on Oregon’s defense and how they would defend the Bears’ quarterback duo of Brandon McIlwain and Chase Garbers. For the most part, the defense rose to the occasion, allowing only 184 yards and one touchdown through the air. Defensive Backs Jevon Holland and Ugo Amadi had two interceptions apiece, but Amadi capped off his big night (seven solo tackles) by returning his second interception to the end zone to shut away the Bears for good.

Quarterback Justin Hebert had another stellar night, completing 16 of 22 passes for 225 yards and two touchdowns, including a masterful 36-yard touchdown pass to Dillon Mitchell. Travis Dye led the backfield with 20 carries, totaling 115 yards and a score while CJ Verdell tacked on 106 more yards on just nine carries. Oregon has a week off before hosting the University of Washington on October 13th.
