SB: Oregon Takes Series over Washington in Back and Forth 4-2 Win

No. 2 Oregon Softball followed Friday night’s 7-2, extra inning victory over no. 4 Washington with a tight 4-2 win in Seattle Saturday afternoon. The Ducks clawed their way in front in the top of the first 1-0, but quickly trailed after Huskies’ left fielder Julia DePonte launched a two-run shot over the fence off UO starter Miranda Elish in the bottom of the frame. Fortunately for the Ducks, Elish would not relinquish another run in the game, finishing with seven hits, two runs, three walks and seven strikeouts in seven full innings. Second baseman Lauren Lindvall tacked the win onto Elish’s line with a two-run big fly of her own in the fourth inning, and further secured the result with an RBI single to shortstop in the sixth. The win moves Oregon to 40-7 on the year, and has them a half game back of UCLA in the Pac-12 standings. The Ducks will tie the Bruins if they win Sunday’s game, slated to start at 1 PM, to finish off the sweep.
