Oregon Women’s Basketball Advances to Sweet 16 with 101-73 Win Over Minnesota

The Ducks picked up where they left off in the First Round, jumping out to a 51-36 halftime lead thanks to a monstrous half from Sabrina Ionescu. Coming off her tenth career triple-double on Friday night, the sophomore had a hand in 24 of Oregon’s 30 first-quarter points and would finish the half with 22 points of her own. It was far from a solo performance, however; as the Ducks’ got 12 more points from Ruthy Hebard and shot an impressive 66%, or two-thirds, of their field goal attempts in the opening half. The Golden Gophers seemed to always have an answer to hold the Ducks from completely running away with the game, shooting 47% from beyond the arc, including four three-pointers and 14 points from Destiny Pitts. The Ducks continued their dominant play in the second half, shooting 57.1%  from the field and outscoring the Golden Gophers 50-37 on their way to a 101-73 victory. Ionescu led the team with 29 points, 7 assists, and 3 steals. She also posted 7 rebounds. Lexi Bando hit three shots beyond the arc on her way to 11 points in her 80th and final game at Matthew Knight. The Ducks now head to Spokane to take on the winner of Monday’s matchup between Ohio State and Central Michigan in the Sweet 16 on March 19.
