The Oregon Ducks (3-7) hope to end a five-game losing streak against the UC Davis Aggies (7-3). The Ducks are coming off of a hard-fought 14-15 loss to Colorado (5-5), but look to bounce back in non-conference play. UC Davis is coming in this Saturday off of a 3-game winning streak with their most recent victory against Duquesne in Pittsburgh on March 29th.
Oregon
It has been a rough season for the Ducks since their game against California on March 17th. They have been unable to convert a win since then, and are hoping to get back to winning ways quickly. Albeit their last loss was in overtime and ended 14-15, a game this close is a step in the right direction. Attacker Gabby Cleveland was consistent, scoring 5 goals, with 4 of them being unassisted. Cleveland has contributed to the Oregon Ducks’ overall 27.8 shots per game this season, with 71.2% of the team’s shots being on goal. Cleveland was able to contribute 6 shots on goal as well. Out of the 14 goals scored by Oregon against Colorado, 6 were unassisted, a telling stat that the midfield needs to get more involved with the offense.
From the defense, Oregon’s stats against Colorado were quite telling. Oregon goalie Paige Crowther had 10 saves compared to Colorado’s 4. As well as this Colorado had 21 turnovers compared to Oregon’s 9. When the defense is performing, the offense can really get a move on, just as long as Oregon can capitalize on turnovers, which is hopefully a lesson they can take away from this matchup.
UC Davis
UC Davis’ season opener against Virginia wasn’t the result they were hoping for, receiving a 12-16 loss. Their season has been extremely successful since then; only conceding 2 more losses across 10 games. Their last game against Duquesne was a successful effort ending with a 20-13 scoreline. Attacker Allanah Scott scored 7 of the 20 goals with most of her all-time season highs being against Duquesne. She had a total of 10 shots, 9 of which were on goal. UC Davis also only had 11 turnovers, compared to the Duck’s 9 from the last game. A relatively close stat is also shared with UC Davis also having 6 saves compared to Oregon’s 9
Prediction
Allanah Scott will still be riding the high of her season-high stats from Duquesne, and Oregon’s defense won’t be able to hold out. UC Davis should take this 20-15.
