Tonight the number six Oregon Ducks took down the 3rd ranked Stanford Cardinal in blowout fashion. After a hotly contested first half, Oregon was able to run away with a 87 to 55 win, outscoring Stanford 51 to 25 in the second half.
Stanford led at the end of the first quarter, but that was the only lead they had all night. The Ducks took the lead with 5 minutes left in the second quarter and never looked back. Oregon led 36 to 30 at halftime, and the second half was all Oregon and all Ionescu. The Sabrina Show was in full effect tonight as she became Oregon’s all-time scoring leader, set a new career high of 37 points and had a double. It was a game that Sabrina called one of her top five favorite games ever and a game that Oregon fans won’t soon forget. Tara Vanderveer called Sabrina the best player in the country, but lamented that her team had quite a few self-inflicted wounds that cost Stanford a chance to win the game.
The Cardinal consistently shoot themselves in the foot with costly turnovers and ill advised shots. Stanford had 18 turnovers on the night and rarely looked composed in what Oregon coach Kelly Graves called “not a Stanford-like-game.” Graves’ Ducks were there to capitalize on every not so Stanford like mistake and cruised their way to a huge win, much to the delight of the sold out Matthew Knight crowd.
This sunday, Oregon looks to build on this dominant win against Cal at 2pm at Matthew Knight Arena.
