WBB: Late Surge Falls Short Against Stanford

With 6:18 left in the game, Nyara Sabally hit two free throws to give Oregon their first lead of the game, which seemed far away for a team that trailed by 15 in the second quarter. Back and forth the Cardinals and Ducks went. Finally, Stanford regained the lead with 28 seconds remaining when Brink hit two free throws. Oregon called a timeout and drew up a play for a Taylor Mikesell three pointer. She missed, but Stanford's Hull missed both her free throws on the other end. The Ducks were afforded another chance, down two, to tie the ball game or shoot a three for the win. Paopao tripped and turn the ball over. Stanford escaped MKA with a 63-61 lead.

Oregon, a team that has been struggling shooting the ball as of late seemed to have found a rhythm late in the third and fourth quarters. Mikesell, Boley, and Shelley, a trio usually deadly from deep was struggling in their few games. However, on Monday night, they combined for 26 points and 5 three pointers. Mikesell led all Ducks with 13 points.

The Ducks trailed 18-2 in the points in the paint category, but their 8-0 run to end the first half closed that gap to 18-10. The end tally was 30-20 Cardinal.

The road does not get easier as Oregon travels to LA for a matchup with #8 UCLA on Friday at 5 pm.
