#12 Oregon Football was tasked with facing #3 Ohio State on the road in front of 100,482 fans without key players Kayvon Thibodeaux and Justin Flowe, who were out with injuries. The tall task didn't faze the Ducks, defeating the Buckeyes 35-28 for a program-altering victory.
Oregon never trailed in this game and controlled the trenches on both sides of the ball. CJ Verdell ran wild for 161 yards on 20 carries, while also stepping up as Oregon's top receiver with 34 receiving yards. In total, Verdell had 200 yards from scrimmage and 3 total TD, including a 77 yard explosion to start the second half.
Oregon QB Anthony Brown went 17-35 for 236 yards and 2 TD, while also rushing for 65 yards on 10 carries. Outside of Verdell, Oregon's other two TDs belonged to Travis Dye (5 yard rush) and Moliki Motavao (14 yard TD pass). When in the redzone, Oregon was 4-4 on scoring TD.
Ohio State was held in check completely in their running game. The Buckeyes managed to rush for just 128 yards on 31 carries, with Miyan Williams leading the way with 80 yards.
Ohio State QB CJ Stroud threw for 484 yards and 3 TD, but Oregon shut down the other aspect of Ohio State's offense. Ohio State's trio of receivers, Chris Olave (12 catches, 126 yards), Garrett Wilson (8 catches, 117 yards, TD) and Jaxson Smith-Njigba (7 catches, 145 yards, 2 TD) had very nice days for the Buckeyes. Ohio State amounted for 612 total yards, but Oregon was able to get the necessary stops, including 3 stops on 4th downs.
Oregon moves to 2-0 with the victory and is sure to climb up in the AP Poll this upcoming week. The Ducks will now set its sights on Stony Brook, who comes to town for a 4:30 pm kick on Saturday, September 18th.
