On a beautiful Sunday afternoon at Jane Sanders Stadium, The final game of the Oregon Ducks (26-16, 5-13) series was played against Washington (28-11, 9-6) ending in a 3-0 sweep for the Huskies. UW dominated game 1, and game 2 went into extra innings. Game 3 was another dominating performance from the Huskies where they pulled out their victory with a score of 5-0.
Makenna Klitethermes got the start after a rough day yesterday, and was looking for a different outcome after the shaky start yesterday. Kliethermes ended up pitching all 7 innings, finishing the day off with 7 IP, 5 earned runs, 5 strikeouts, and 2 walks. Kliethermes being able to go all 7 innings is a great sign for the Ducks, allowing the team to not always rely on Stevie Hansen. Kliethermes' earned runs came from a 3 run shot in the top of the 2nd, a RBI double in the 4th, as well as a sac fly in the top of the 5th.
The Ducks offensively just were not able to get the offense going at all today because of the Washington ace, Gabbie Plain. Plain had a fantastic day only giving up 3 hits, 1 walk and 8 strikeouts.
Oregon looks to move past this series versus Washington by playing against their rivals, Oregon State (31-17, 7-11) at home, in their next 3-game series on Friday, April 29.
