In the first of three games in the final rivalry series as part of the Pac-12 Conference, the Oregon Ducks (25-15) took care of business against Oregon State, winning 11-3. They were looking for a strong bounce-back performance following the series loss at Arizona, and they got one.
Oregon dominated from the start, giving up no hits in the top of the first and immediately getting to work on offense in the bottom. Kai Luschar scored to put the Ducks up 1-0 after the first, then the Ducks took advantage of a very productive second inning in which they scored four runs and gave up none. Luschar was one of the main contributors, as she had a double RBI in that inning. While Oregon St was able to dent the scoreboard in the third inning, they never appeared to be in contention today. Oregon had firm control of the game all the way through, creating confidence for the team and the fans heading into the next two games against the Beavers. The final dagger was driven when KK Humphreys scored a 3 RBI homer in the 5th to put the Ducks up 8-1. Shortly after, the Ducks tacked on a few more runs to officially end things in the 6th.
After they conclude the series with Oregon St, the Ducks will face Northern Colorado at home in a brief one-game matchup. The following week, they will conclude their regular season on the road at Stanford. While Northern Colorado has an RPI rank in the 160s, Stanford currently sits in the top 5, as they are one of the best teams in softball this season. The series with the Cardinal will inform us about Oregon’s ability to go on a deep postseason run. Anyways, Oregon still has business to take care of at home in Eugene. They will face the Beavers again tomorrow at 6pm and then on Sunday at 4pm. You can listen to both games in real time here on KWVA 88.1 FM.
