After what turned out to be a lengthy rain delay, both the Oregon Ducks (28-16) and Oregon State Beavers (31-17) softball squads squared off Saturday night, with the Ducks being able to win on a walk-off RBI single from Jasmine Williams and an errant throw from the Beavers.
Oregon took down the Beavers on Friday night in a rain-shortened game, 5-0, and were looking to get their first series win in over a month. After Stevie Hansen pitched on Friday, it was Makenna Kliethermes' turn to take the mound. Kliethermes looked good through the first inning and a third before letting up a two-run home run to Oregon State's Grace Messmer in the second inning. Kliethermes would end up giving up another run to the Beavers, but kept the scoring there as she would also total 11 strikeouts in six innings pitched, 10 of which came in just four and two-thirds innings.
On the other side, Oregon's offense looked similar to last weekend for the first three innings, finally opening up the scoring on an Ariel Carlson three-run home run in the fourth. Oregon State would tie the game up an inning later to make it a 3-3 ballgame. The teams would stay at a stalemate until the bottom of the seventh when Oregon had the chance to walk it off. The Beavers pitcher walked Ariel Carlson to put her on first, and after she stole second, Jasmine Williams came to the plate with the chance to win the game for the Ducks. She didn't let her team or Ducks fans down as she hit a single down the third base side, and got lucky with an errant throw from the Oregon State infielder to be able to send Ariel Carlson home, and get the win for the Ducks.
Oregon will once again play Oregon State tomorrow at Jane Sanders Stadium at 4 p.m. as they look to get their first sweep in Pac-12 play.
