The No. 18 Ducks rode a one-hit complete game shutout from Morgan Scott to a 9-0 victory over the Ohio Valley's Lindenwood Lions Thursday afternoon. Either Stevie Hansen or Raegan Breedlove will take the field for the backend of the two-game series Friday evening, as Oregon looks to maintain momentum heading into the final month of the regular season.
Allee Bunker, the team's heart and soul, has been on a tear as of late. She had 3 singles with 3 RBI out of her 4 at bats as the cleanup hitter Thursday, bumping her batting average over .400. She's cemented herself as one of the best hitters Jane Sanders Stadium has ever seen, recently passing her own coach, Nikki Ragin, for second on the Ducks' all-time hits leaderboard. She is backed up in the batting lineup by catcher Terra McGowan, who sports a .309 average while leading the team in home runs.
No one in the Lions' dugout was able to get going in the first game of the series. That's nothing new for a team who has four home runs on the year and ranks last in the Ohio Valley Conference in batting average. Still it's always difficult to shut a team out for two consecutive games. Sophomore outfielder Irelynn West is their biggest threat at the plate, hitting .360 with 13 doubles and 14 RBI in 31 games.
Oregon had an up-and-down month of March, losing two games to one in all three series against ranked opponents. While they haven't been able to dominate the giants of the PAC-12, they have taken care of business against unranked opponents all year long. With nothing but unranked opponents ahead, they must continue to win consistently to remain in the top 25 themselves.
Prediction: Oregon wins 7-1
