SB | Oregon Fights Back Late, But Falls Short In 8-6 Loss

After a run-rule loss yesterday to the rival OSU Beavers(23-18, 5-13 Pac-12), the Oregon Ducks(21-24, 4-13 Pac-12) drop the second game of the series by a score of 8-6. This marks the first series loss to Oregon State in softball for the Ducks in 10 years. Despite being down 8-3 going into the 7th, Oregon tried their best to excite the fans in a sold out Jane Sanders Stadium, mounting a comeback, but only managed three runs and falling just short of the win.

Starting pitcher Jordan Dail takes her 12th loss of the season, going 4.2 innings and giving up five earned runs, as well as two walks and three hit batters, striking out only three. She also gave up four extra-base hits, two of which were home runs She was replaced by freshman Kailey Krueger, who would go 0.2 innings and gave up no earned runs before being supplanted by third baseman Rachel Cid in the circle, who finished the game by going 1.2 innings and allowing no runs and only two hits, which were the only base-runners she allowed. One Beaver that Oregon pitching could not contain was shortstop Maia Rader, who went 3-4 with a double and a run scored out of the nine hole in the lineup.

Offensively, the Ducks hurt themselves by not taking advantage of the scoring opportunities they were given, leaving 11 runners stranded throughout the game. One situation that stands out was when Haley Cruse lead off the 6th with a walk and got to third base with no outs, and the Ducks hitters could not bring her in. One bright spot was Hannah Galey, who cam up clutch in two different situations. With the bases loaded and two outs in the 3rd, she managed to draw a walk and score the Ducks second run, and later in the 7th she singled to keep the game alive for Oregon.

Tomorrow, the Ducks will try to avoid the series sweep at the hands of their rival OSU at Jane Sanders Stadium at 5 pm.
