SB | #7 Washington Outlasts Oregon 6-3 in an Extra-Inning Thriller

Oregon softball's losing streak extended to 10 games on Saturday, after losing 6-3 to the #7 Washington Huskies in 10 innings. The Huskies got the scoring started when Nawai Kaupe blasted a solo home-run to left field off of Jordan Dail in the 3rd inning. The Ducks responded to Kaupe's blast when April Utect connected on a 2-run home-run in the 5th inning off of Washington's starter Gabbie Plain. Oregon's 2-1 advantage was short-lived, as Sami Reynolds' 2-run home-run in the 6th inning gave the Huskies back the lead at 3-2. With their backs against the wall, and having already endured a two-hour, 22-minute rain delay, Oregon's Jasmine Sievers lifted a 1-out home-run to right field in the bottom of the 7th to force extra innings. Teran Alvelo, who replaced Gabbie Plain after the rain delay, outlasted Oregon's reliever, Kailey Kruger down the stretch. After tossing 4.2 scoreless frames, Kailey Kruger gave up the decisive blow in the top of the 10th inning, a 3-run home-run to the pinch hitting, Amirah Milloy to put Washington up 6-3. Oregon went down in order in the bottom of the 10th, as Alvelo cruised to the finish line with two of her nine strikeouts. Alvelo finished the afternoon throwing 5.0 innings, giving up two hits and 1-run.

Oregon (11-4, 0-4) and Washington (23-6, 1-3) will go at it again in game two of the three game series on Sunday, with first pitch scheduled for 4:00 PM.
