Oregon Baseball (28-11, 12-7) bounced back Friday night after dropping their previous 2 games to beat Washington 8-0. With the win, Oregon won their 8th series opener of the season.
The story of the game was the pitching performance by Robert Ahlstrom. Ahlstrom finished the game with 11 strikeouts in 7 scoreless innings while just allowing 4 hits. The 11 strikeouts set a new career high in K's for the Junior out of Eugene.
Ahlstrom was able to work his way through jams in the 2nd and 3rd innings. Both innings Washington was able to put men on the corners with no outs before Alhstrom retired the next 3 batters to escape both innings with no runs. After that point in the 3rd inning, Washington did not have a runner reach second base in the game.
Oregon scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning off of a Tanner Smith RBI double, a Kenyon Yovan RBI ground out, and a Gabe Matthews RBI single. In the 5th inning, the Ducks were able to add onto their lead as Gravin Grant hit a moonshot over the left field fence for his second home run of the season, and Josh Kasevich hit a bases clearing double with 3 runners on to extend the Oregon lead to 7-0.
The Ducks will look to keep up the momentum for the rest of the weekend series against the Huskies. The two teams will duke it out on Saturday at 2pm and Sunday at 12pm.
