Oregon Volleyball Vanquish Competition in Straight Sets to Start Their Season

By: Xaiver Aguiar

The Oregon Ducks put together an impressive start to their season Friday, beating both Portland State and Santa Clara in straight sets. The 14th ranked Ducks looked unfazed throughout, winning every set by more than 5 points.

It started up front, with the star of the matches Abby Hansen. Throughout both contests, Hansen accumulated 13 kills and 12 blocks. She was a maestro with her timing ability and was able to pair that with her breathtaking power.

Elsewhere Georgia Murphy raised eyebrows, having the most digs out of any player on the court in both matches she played. The sophomore Libero was a ball magnet, making more than a few highlight-reel plays.

When talking about Oregon volleyball, you can't forget to mention Brook Nuneviller. The All-American had her typical all-around performance, as she was the only Duck to muster more than 5 kills and digs in both matches.

Oregon had an added energy boost throughout the day, as the team welcomed fans back into Matthew Knight Arena. The crowd was lively throughout both matches, as they got to see their squad in person for the first time in over a year.

The women's soccer team was in attendance during the second match, cheering on their fellow athletes. A highlight of the day being the ladies even heckling the Santa Clara servers as they tried to give their fellow Ducks a home-court advantage.

Matt Ulmer was pleased with his team's effort but noted there's still more to work on as the season progresses. Ulmer won't have to wait long to see his team in action, as they close out their weekend slate tomorrow at 11 A.M as they take on the San Jose State Spartans.
