Oregon Men’s Tennis fell to the No. 10 ranked Arizona Wildcats 4-1 on Sunday afternoon. The Wildcats spoiled Senior Day for the Ducks and were crowned the Pac-12 Champions. The Wildcats won every singles match in the match. The only point awarded to the Ducks was after they won two out of the three doubles matches. It came down to Oregon’s Matthew Burton and Vlad Breazu. Breazu and David Cierny’s match went unfinished. Burton lost both sets to Arizona’s Herman Hoyereal which ultimately gave the Wildcats the victory in the match.
Oregon finishes 14-12 overall and 3-5 in the conference going into the Pac-12 Championships in Ojai, California. They will kick off the tournament against UCLA this Thursday. After the loss to the Wildcats, head coach Nils Schylander said, “We still got Ojai, the Pac-12 Championship. We’re looking forward to that”. The Ducks have a chance to make the NCAA Men’s Tennis Championships if they win the Pac-12 Championships. It will be a tough task for the Ducks as they may have to face Arizona again in the Pac-12 Championships. The Ducks look to win the Pac-12 Championships for the first time in 10 years.
