Oregon Football Offensive Coordinator Kenny Dillingham Addresses Media with QBs Ty Thompson and Bo Nix Following Practice

By Dylan Farrell

The Oregon Ducks had their second full-pads practice of this spring session on Saturday afternoon. All eyes were on the competition for the QB1 spot between senior transfer Bo Nix and redshirt freshman Ty Thompson. The glut of questions asked of those interviewed focused on that battle, as well as the chemistry between the two. Oregon quarterbacks Ty Thompson and Bo Nix were made available to the media alongside offensive coordinator Kenny Dillingham following practice.

Why Oregon for Bo Nix?

Early in his availability, Nix was asked about his reasons for choosing Oregon over other top schools this offseason when he transferred out of Auburn. He initially responded with “why not Oregon?” before citing his experience with new OC Dillingham at Auburn. Nix was also asked about how the competition between quarterbacks has affected the intensity of spring training, his growth as a football player since his freshman season and a number of other topics that are at the forefront of Ducks fans’ minds.

Competition for QB1: How are Nix and Thompson Making Each Other Better?

Questions for Coach Dillingham and Ty Thompson also largely centered around the renewed competition between quarterbacks and how Thompson and Nix have been helping each other improve while competing for the coveted QB1 position. During his session, Dillingham noted how the duel is helping the two slingers become “addicted to improvement,” something that he strives to instill in his players to ensure they become the best players that they can be under his tutelage. Thompson said that Nix “the main goal is being successful as a team,” and mentioned that the older quarterback has been a valuable resource already in his growth as a player.
