The Oregon Ducks opened up the 2020 season later than expected, but for Duck fans, it might have been worth the wait after a 35-14 win over Pac-12 North rival Stanford. The Cardinal were the last team to beat Oregon in Autzen, and revenge was in store for the new-look Ducks.
Oregon's offense looked revitalized under new Offensive Coordinator Joe Moorhead who led Oregon to 496 total yards with brand new starting Quarterback Tyler Shough at the helm. Shough got it done through the air and on the ground, rushing for 85 yards and a TD and throwing for 227 yards and a TD with a shocking number one target. DJ Johnson, a former defensive lineman, lined up at tight end tonight and reeled in 5 receptions for 55 yards, including a trip to paydirt.
The defensive side of the ball had its fair share of bright spots as well. True Freshman Noah Sewell was a leader on defense with 4 tackles and a tackle for loss alongside veteran linebacker Isaac Slade-Matautia who recorded 5 tackles of his own. The bend don't break defense of Oregon forced Stanford into 4 field goal attempts in which Stanford fifth-year kicker Jet Toner missed all 4. Oregon tries to turn this win into a streak as their season continues next Saturday at Washington State.
