On a rainy evening at PK Park, the Oregon Ducks (27-14) beat the California Golden Bears (20-21) 7-2. The Ducks came into the game on a three-game losing streak but were able to break the streak thanks to a great start by RJ Gordon and another offensive outburst by Anthony Hall.
RJ Gordon responded well after a rough start against Washington State last weekend and started the game with three perfect innings. Things didn't go as well for him in the fourth as Dylan Beavers led off the inning with a single and Caleb Lomavita followed two batters later with a double down the left-field line scoring Beavers. Cole Elvis was able to reach safely following an error by Drew Cowley. After two wild pitches, Lomavita scored making it 2-0 Bears. Gordon exited the game with two outs in the sixth inning, only allowing the two runs while striking out four.
Steven Zobac was on the mound for the Bears, and he held the Ducks to just four hits in 5.1 innings. After giving up a one-out double to Cowley in the sixth, Josh White replaced Zobac on the mound. After Jacob Walsh struck out, Josh Kasevich and Anthony Hall hit back-to-back doubles to give the Ducks a 3-2 lead.
The Bears had an opportunity to tie the game in the eighth after Lomavita and Elvis singled with two outs, but Kolby Somers was able to come in and strike out Rodney Green Jr. to end the inning. In the bottom of the inning, Josh White walked three straight Ducks with one out to load the bases for Anthony Hall. Hall proceeded to hit a triple off the center field wall, making the score 6-2. Hall finished the game 2-4 with 5 RBIs and a run scored. With the infield playing back, Colby Shade was able to bring Hall in to score via a ground out to shortstop to grow the Ducks' lead to five. The Bears had a chance to rally in the ninth after Keshawn Ogans reached on an error and Trevor Tishenkel walked, but Somers got Jack Johnston on a fly out before striking out Dom Souto and Dylan Beavers to end the game.
The win was Oregon's 17th comeback victory of the season. With more rainy conditions in the forecast, the Ducks will look to win the series tomorrow at PK Park with the first pitch at 2 p.m.
