After the No. 12 Oregon Ducks (22-2) upset the No. 8 Florida State Seminoles (20-5) on Friday night 2-0, the Seminoles looked to rebound against the Ducks in a mid-afternoon Sunday game, part of the 2025 Jane Sanders Classic. However, the Ducks stayed strong and knocked off the No. 8 team in the nation again in their second meeting, 1-0.
Oregon starting pitcher Elise Sokolsky (7 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 5 K, 0 BB) started off strong in the top of the first inning with a quick three and out as Florida State’s first three batters had no luck.
Against Florida State’s starting pitcher Ashtyn Danley (4 ⅓ IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 2 K, 0 BB), Oregon started off the bottom of the first inning with a Kai Luschar ground ball, reaching first after an official review. Even with Luschar stealing second, Katie Flannery hit a pop fly to right field, ending the inning with a runner left in scoring position for the Ducks.
The Seminoles started the top of the second inning with Michaela Edenfield hitting a pop-up. Sokolsky got her first strikeout of the day before quickly following it up with her second, retiring Katie Dack.
The Ducks started the bottom of the second with a bunt hit from Paige Sinicki, reaching first before instantly swiping second on the first pitch to Kedre Luschar. After Luschar moved her over to third, Sinicki was picked off by the Seminole backstop before Dezianna Patmon overran first and was tagged out to end the inning.
Back at the top of the order in the bottom of the third, Kai Luschar hit the ball down the left field line and reached second base, but Kaylynn Jones struck out on a full count, leaving a runner in scoring position again.
In the top of the fourth, Jaysoni Beachum hit a line drive down the center and was able to reach first as the first base runner for the Seminoles in the game. After a fielder’s choice, Michaela Edenfield hit a pop fly to the left, which was caught and ended the inning with a runner left in scoring position.
Kedre Luschar bunted on the first pitch of the bottom of the fifth for a single.. Patmon followed with a line drive just to the right of center field, allowing Luschar to reach third base to put runners on the corners. With Elyse Kresho pinch running for Patmon, she advanced to second, putting two Ducks in scoring position. Braiesey Rosa hit a single behind the Seminole shortstop, allowing Luschar to score the first run of the day for the Ducks, putting them up 1-0. On the second pitch to Abby Steffen, Kresho attempted to steal home, but Florida’s catcher Edenfield obstructed the running lane, however, a review determined an out at home plate, causing the first out of the eventful bottom of the inning. Steffen went down swinging before Kai Luschar grounded to short to end the inning.
The top of the seventh inning started with the Seminoles’ Kennedy Harp hitting a grounder to Flannery, who tossed it to first for the out. Edenfield did the exact same thing, grounding to Flannery before Hallie Wascaser hit a fly ball out to center fielder Kedre Luschar, who tracked it the whole way into the glove to secure the win.
In a mostly defensive game, the Ducks came out on top 1-0, with the only run coming in the bottom of the fifth inning with Kedre Luschar running home and Rosa getting the RBI.
Oregon softball has a quick turnaround, facing Abilene Christian later today in its second game of the doubleheader.
