The new era of Oregon Duck Football has begun as new Head Coach Dan Lanning and his team went through their first fully-padded practice of 2022. The atmosphere was positive and rejuvenating as Coach Lanning was in good spirits in addressing the media following the conclusion of practice. Some key takeaways from Tuesday's practice:
Live Game Simulation Drills
With pads on, Coach Lanning was able to run and simulate in-game situations with his players. Lanning emphasized running through situations such as two-minute drills, as well as third and long situations for the offense and defense in which he and the rest of the coaching staff and team will now watch the film and breakdown each play.
First Look at Bo Nix
The Quarterback transfer from Auburn in his Junior year, Bo Nix was able to give Coach Lanning in company a first look of him in pads as an Oregon Duck, leading the charge under center during the aforementioned two-minute, and third and long drills. The overall consensus following practice was that there is certainly room for improvement for Nix, but Coach Lanning noted the intelligence and eagerness to learn in which Nix possesses as a Quarterback. Lanning also talked about the excitement behind seeing some of the explosiveness from the offense throughout practice, but did not specify which Quarterbacks were seen during these plays, whether it was Nix or Redshirt Freshman Ty Thompson, who played backup last season to Anthony Brown.
