EUGENE, Ore. — The spring game is always one of the best early looks at the future of a program and an opportunity to evaluate new faces, transfers, and rising stars. For the Oregon Ducks, much of the spotlight rightfully centers on quarterback Dante Moore. But arguably the most intriguing storyline is the debut of former five-star quarterback Dylan Raiola in front of the Eugene crowd.

Raiola transferred from Nebraska this offseason and was once viewed as a player capable of starting almost anywhere in the country. Instead, he made the surprising decision to step into a learning role behind Moore, betting on his development over the immediate spotlight.

Last season at Nebraska, Raiola threw for 2,000 yards and 18 touchdowns in just nine games before suffering an injury against USC. In that stretch, he showed not just arm talent but the command of an offense that made him one of the most coveted recruits in the country. So why transfer?

For Raiola, it came down to fit and long-term vision. Originally recruited by Oregon out of high school, he described joining the program as a “total buy-in,” emphasizing the opportunity to grow within the system and learn behind an NFL-caliber quarterback in Moore.

“You got to humble yourself,” Raiola said. “I’d be lying if I said it didn’t take a couple practices to get used to, but it’s all learning… to achieve the goal of mine and Dante’s right now.”

That growth was already on display in the spring game.

On his very first drive in front of the home crowd, Raiola wasted no time making an impression. On his second pass, he connected with wide receiver Evan Stewart for a perfectly placed 76-yard touchdown, which ignited the crowd and offered a glimpse of what could be ahead.

“As a kid, you grow up watching Oregon, watching those things. To actually put myself in those shoes, I’m very blessed, very grateful to experience this,” Raiola said when explaining the noise and environment the crowd built.

Raiola finished the day going 7-of-11 with 146 yds and the touchdown to Stewart, showing he’s picking up right where he left off at Nebraska while continuing to evolve, not just as a passer, but as a leader and commander of the offense under Oregon’s coaching staff. With the energy of the Duck faithful behind him, it’s clear this is just the beginning.
