Story by Saul Galvan
In a game that many knew was going to be big for both quarterbacks, Bo Nix came out victorious in the battle with USC and reigning Heisman, Caleb Williams. Nix continued his campaign for the prestigious award, throwing for over 400 yards and 3 touchdowns in the win. His competition percentage for the game sat just below 75%, as Nix led the offense in an efficient first half. The Ducks managed to score on six of their ten total drives, including four in the first half.
Explosive big plays were vital to Nix’s huge stat line. Oregon managed to score two touchdowns on just five plays in back-to-back drives. Nix connected with his brother, Tez Johnson for a 77-yard touchdown on just the second play of Oregon’s first drive. On the next drive for the Ducks, Nix found a wide-open Troy Franklin for an 84-yard touchdown. Nix’s ability to execute plays and kill time off the clock, combined with huge plays from the defense made it impossible for USC to come up with a response.
With the win, Oregon will most likely remain at #6 in the top 25 due to Washington and Florida state winning their games earlier in the day. It was also announced that Nix is now favored to win the Heisman after his performance against USC. If Nix can continue this streak of production against Arizona State and Oregon State, as well as in the postseason, Oregon may be able to add a second Heisman Quarterback to their list in just the last nine years.
