EUGENE, Ore. — First baseman Kiki Estrada knocked her 14th and 15th home runs of the season, and the Ohio State Buckeyes (24–23, 10–8 Big Ten) snapped the No. 14 Oregon Ducks’ (36–10, 16–3) 12-game winning streak with a 3–0 victory at Jane Sanders Stadium on Friday evening.
Estrada, who finished 2-for-3 with the pair of homers, jumped on Lyndsey Grein in the fifth inning with a no-doubter into The Bob in centerfield, and later got her again by hitting one to a very similar spot of the ballpark in the sixth inning.
Grein (23–5) pitched a complete game despite the loss, allowing three runs with only two charged to her on four hits while striking out ten batters.
“I thought Lyndsey battled,” Oregon head coach Melyssa Lombardi said. “I thought she gave us an opportunity to win the entire game. It’s a tough team, they swing, they got power, and we knew that. But I just love the way she competed.”
Lombardi made it clear that the team needed to approach Estrada more carefully.
“Keep doing a good job and mixing balls,” Lombardi said.
Lorin Boutte (6–5) complemented Estrada’s performance with a complete game shutout, allowing only five hits while striking out seven batters.
“I thought she did a good job of getting us to be late on her riseball and just have a lot of balls in the air,” Lombardi said. “We need to get to be on time on those, and we need to hit the ball hard on a line.”
Ohio State added an insurance run after a low throw by Oregon third baseman Katie Flannery got past Rylee McCoy at first base, allowing centerfielder Skylar Limon to score from third.
The Ducks were unable to capitalize with runners on first and second with one out, stranding what would be five runners on the evening after leaving a pair on base in the fifth inning.
Oregon, which has not lost a series in Big Ten play since joining in 2024, looks to avoid its first as it faces off against the Buckeyes at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
