The No. 11 Ducks (5-2) found their rhythm and clinched a dominant 19-12 win against the Rams (3-3) for the first blowout of the series. The score was 8-3 at the middle of the eighth, when the Ducks finally seized control. With bases loaded from walks and HBPs, Jacob Walsh added to the tally by blowing a double deep into center field that scored two. It was the only hit of the highest-scoring inning.
From then on, the Ducks found their momentum and turned a nail-biter into a lopsided victory.
“You’ve gotta be able to win a lot of different ways,” said head coach Mark Wasikowski. “You gotta be able to win by hitting a ball over the fence. You gotta be able to win by bunting sometimes or stealing base, or just walking and taking long at-bats.”
The Ducks took advantage of 15 free passes throughout the game. “We showed that we can win in a different way today and that's the first time we showed that,” Wasikowski said.
Oregon established its offensive rhythm, executing dominant plays to keep the scoring momentum alive. Mason Neville had a standout performance, going 2-for-4 hammering two home runs, four RBIs and scoring four runs. Jacob Walsh had a 2-for-5 night, with two doubles, three RBIs and three runs. Anson Aroz showcased 1-for-3 with a home run, two RBIs and scored three runs.
“Continuing to take it game by game, pitch by pitch and going out there and competing,” Neville said. “That’s the goal always is to win and we’ll have a plan to do that.”
Neville racked up his fifth homer of the year in just the second weekend of the season.
The Ducks will host the Rams for the final game of the series on Sunday with a 12:05 p.m. first pitch at PK Park.
