It was nothing short of an intense Friday night game in PK Park. Oregon was back in Eugene, riding a ten game win streak, looking to keep it going against in-state rivals Oregon State. The Ducks won the game 2-0.
Unlike the past ten games during the winning streak, the offense was not really present in friday's win, but the pitching found their stride. Jace Stoffal got the start, and had nothing short of an incredible outing. He finished the game with a final stat line of seven innings pitched, one hit, no earned runs, and nine strikeouts. Stoffal had a no-hitter going into the seventh but gave up a single before getting into a bases-loaded jam. He would escape the inning off of back to back strikeouts. Matt Dallas came in the eighth inning, but would only face three batters before Josh Mollerus closed out the game, getting the four out save.
As for the offense, the Ducks lone two runs came in the fifth inning. Gavin Grant hit a one out double to right field, then Shade brought him home with an RBI single. Cowley would add another single, advancing Shade to third, before Ceballos laced a double to left field, driving in Shade. The Ducks did have other opportunities, piecing together seven hits, but two runs is all they would need thanks to the pitching.
The Ducks came into the series looking to continue their win streak, but also for a little revenge. Last year, the Ducks were swept by Oregon State in a four game series in Corvallis, getting outscored 19-10. With control of the series, Oregon hopes to defend their home turf with a series win over the beavers on Saturday, and possibly a sweep on Sunday. First pitch for Saturday is set for 3:00
