Evan Williams finally ended the 12 inning contest as his bomb to left center field gave the Ducks a 5-4 win Saturday evening at PK Park. #22 Arizona State suffered their first loss of the season as they were 21-0 coming into today's contest.
Oregon got off to a 4-0 start by the 3rd inning thanks to a bases loaded walk for Gabe Matthews. Then Aaron Zavala reached base on a fielders choice. Max Foxcroft's 2 RBI single scored Sam Steer and Zavala.
The Sun Devils were able to erase the 4-0 deficit with a 2 RBI single from Spencer Torkelson. Then Carter Aldrete and Gage Workman each had an RBI single to even the score.
The pitching was strong throughout the game as Robert Ahlstrom went 6 innings and threw a career high 8 strikeouts. Ryne Nelson gave up the 4 Sun Devil runs, but was durable and threw a career high 10 strikeouts as well. Nico Tellache came in for the 12th inning and recorded the win.
Evan Williams entered the game in the bottom of the 10th to pinch hit for Vinny Tosti. Fast forward to the bottom of the 12th, one out, nobody on. Williams homered to left center to end the four and a half hour game.
The win improves Oregon's record to 12-8 on the season and 2-3 in Pac-12 play. While ASU goes to 21-1 overall and 4-1 in the Pac-12.
The Duck's will look to win the series against ASU 12 p.m. Sunday at PK Park.
