The #24 ranked Ducks hosted #2 Oregon State for the second consecutive Tuesday and found a similar result. The Ducks dropped their mid-week bout with the Beavers 2-0 in a pitcher's duel that showcased both teams' bullpens.
Oregon started Dylan Sabia on the bump as an opener, but the most impressive pitcher of the night was Caleb Sloan. Sloan relived Sabia in the 2nd inning and threw three scoreless frames, including five K's. Andrew Mosiello came in after Sloan and had an impressive two-inning three strikeout outing.
Despite Oregon's pitching success, Oregon State was equally as adept on the hill. The Beavers held the Ducks' bats at bay as both teams entered the 7th inning scoreless.
Oregon had a chance to add runs in the 7th, with the bases loaded and one out. Gavin Grant came to the plate but went down on strikes, and Tyler Ganus lined out to end the Oregon threat.
Oregon State capitalized in the bottom half of the 7th with an RBI sac-fly from Tanner Smith. Yes, Tanner Smith, the Oregon State catcher, not the Ducks left fielder. The beavers added on an extra run with a solo shot from Justin Boyd.
Oregon's offense could never recover, and the Ducks lost 2-0.
Oregon will play Oregon State for a series this weekend up in Corvallis starting Friday.
