The Ducks went into game 2 of the NCAA Super Regionals Saturday night after having completed the largest comeback in Super Regional history. Oregon found themselves down 0-8 after the 3rd inning and didn’t look like they had anything going, but then the rally started. After scoring 5 by the 4th the Ducks defense was able to stay strong not letting anything else up. By the end of the 7th Oregon was tied with Oral Roberts. Then thanks to a Drew Cowley walk off single scoring Nishida Oregon completed the comeback winning in crazy fashion.
This game started off the same as last night as neither team was able to get anything substantial going in the first inning. It seemed the 2nd was going to go the same way for the Ducks until Jacob Walsh opened the score sheet with a massive solo HR in the far right-center field. Oregon didn’t hold the lead for long though as in the bottom of the 2nd the Spoljaric walked the bases loaded and then the Golden Eagles were able to capitalize thanks to a 2 RBI single from Stahl followed by a 1 RBI single from Brothers giving Oral Roberts the 3-1 lead going into the 3rd.
Both teams then went on again to have a scoreless 3rd inning but by the 4th they got back on track. Sabin Ceballos hit a rainbow of a 2 run HR after Cowley was hit by a pitch to tie things back up at 3 a piece. The Golden Eagles then were able to strike back as Godman hit an RBI groundout as they bases were loaded taking the lead right back. However in the top of the 5th Oregon were able to strike again this time it was a RBI single from Cowley scoring Nishida and then a RBI double from Ceballos scoring Cowley from 1st giving Oregon the lead back 5-4.
Thanks to some great pitching from both teams in the 6th it stayed the same going into the 7th until, Drew Smith hit a 2 RBI triple extending Oregon's lead to 7-4 and giving them all the momentum going into the bottom. That was when Oral Roberts got one back as McMurray got an RBI double bringing it back to 7-5 going into the 8th.
Oregon would go 1-2-3 in the 8th and then give up a lead of solo shot to Cox extending his hitting streak to 46 straight games and making it a one run game going into the 9th. In the 9th the Ducks would get runners on 2nd and 3rd with 2 outs but couldn't capitalize. This left all the pressure on the defense to hold on and win the game. Unfortunately for the Ducks after back to back singles and then a walk the bases were juiced with only 1 out. Then Quinn singled down the LF line with the ball staying in bounds by a matter of inches to walk off the game for Oral Roberts sending it to a game 3 tomorrow
Game 3 will be a winner take all scenario in which both teams are trying to get to Omaha and the college world series. The game will start at 3pm PT and will be played live on ESPNU
