Bob Weir, founding member of The Grateful Dead, passed away on January 10, 2026. Amy and Will Winton, owners of the Mexican-fusion restaurant Pandita, described his passing as “the end of an era.”

To celebrate Weir’s contribution to the Winton’s lives and to their community, the restaurant hosted a One More Saturday Night event, featuring musician Ras D and DJ Bump.

Pandita is a popular spot for Eugene locals, serving quality tacos, tostadas, margaritas, and Pandaritos (if you don’t know what this is, I suggest you go find out). The restaurant’s mascot is inspired by the Grateful Dead’s signature bears, and the music they blast through the kitchen is reminiscent of the mid-60’s bay-area hippie culture.

DJ Bump played a six-hour collection of music throughout the night, including some of his own pieces. He featured different versions of popular Grateful Dead songs, like “Franklin’s Tower” and “China Cat Sunflower.” His table was set up outside with a memoriam for Weir front and center.

Weir was known for his teeny tiny cut-off shorts, due to his extreme hatred for overheating on stage. It became an unofficial signature look of his. Pandita set out a pair of tiny shorts, alongside some roses and strong smelling incense to remember the late musician.

Locals and University of Oregon students alike gathered to enjoy the music, chatting and swaying to the six-hour set. The music flowed from reggae beats to jam band sessions, transitioning into some relaxed EDM, but always circling back to The Grateful Dead. There were a few tears shed to DJ Bump's rendition of “Ripple,” while customers sat and absorbed the vibes.

Pandita hosts a Bluegrass Night every last Wednesday of the month, and other live events as the seasons get warmer. DJ Bump is featured on many of these nights, and Pandita is always looking to feature more musical groups or creators in Eugene.
