DJ Spotlight: DJ Alabee of Here, There, and Nowhere

Have you ever been curious about the benevolent ruler of Here, There, and Nowhere? Ever wonder about the mysterious DJ Alabee, the radio personality who keeps it fresh on the weekly, seamlessly transitioning from one genre to the next? Well look no further, because today, the spotlight is on DJ Alabee, DJ queen of the Here, There, and Nowhere. Name: DJ Alabee Show and time: Here, There, and Nowhere, Wednesdays Noon - 1 pm, Fall 2015 Hometown: North Plains, OR Show description: My show is titled Here, There, and Nowhere for a reason. It changes every week depending on my mood, and often changes abruptly in the middle of my hour. I like to keep the overall mood of it pretty steady, but all genres are up for grabs. Sometimes I like to play movie soundtracks, sometimes I play only new music, sometimes I play only 80’s music, but I always play good music! Which artists do you commonly play on your show? Anything from Pretty Lights to Alex G. LCD Soundsystem to Parquet Courts. System of a Down to Elliott Smith. How long have you been a DJ? I’ve been DJ’ing since I got the call around the second week of my freshman year. So about two years exactly! Tell us your favorite moment as a DJ: I still get incredibly excited anytime I get a call from someone saying they enjoy the music that I play. I think music communicates something that words alone never could, so I love having the opportunity to share something that really speaks to me on the airwaves. What makes your show unique? Even after two years I have yet to develop any sort of radio personality. So I talk to my listeners as if they are in the room with me. I think it makes even more of a connection with the listeners… Or at least I hope that’s what it does. If you could play only one album on the radio for the rest of your DJ career, what would it be and why? Can I make it a mixtape? A mixtape that I create…? An infinite mixtape? How did you come up with your DJ name? A band that has had a big impact on me is of Montreal. The lead singer’s daughter’s name is Alabee, and he has a song written about her. I thought it was a cool name. It also combines the first letters of my first and last name so it worked out. Dream guest to have on your show? Kevin Barnes. Father of the original Alabee and the man behind of Montreal. Thanks, DJ Alabee! If you’re interested in being the next featured DJ of the week, contact music@kwvaradio.org.
