Blotter Boyz | Sunday Live Sessions Recap
Music Video / Full Performance + Interview
Blotter Boyz came to Live Sessions on October 27th and absolutely rocked our station!
At the moment, they are better know as as Brown Stallion, a Ween cover band, but their original music which they perform as Blotter Boyz is incredibly good. Their sound can be described as a mix of psychedelic rock with just a splash of goofiness and lo-fi energy. Blotter Boyz' 6-track EP 'Thoughts' was released early this year on January 20th. They had played a Halloween show the previous night, where they shouted out KWVA and encouraged their fans to tune in. Demetri Kritsepis, a KWVA DJ who has been working with the group on their promotions, hosted the band and interviewed them after their performance. The band's lead singer/songwriter, Adam Corkery remarked that he and his bandmates very much enjoyed the experience, and would love to come perform again once they release more music.
For me, as head of Production, this was a special day for Live Sessions. I was finally able to implement a solution for one of my long-time gripes with filming in our station. The light! Ugly fluorescent ceiling lights that produce green and yellowish skin tones and cause problems when color grading footage, even with proper white balancing. We purchased some cheap blackout curtains and blocked it out! Much better. We also brought in some colorful lights to create the most unique-looking live session I've produced so far.
Helping on this Live Session was our Music Director, Jackson (DJ Fud) and our office assistant, Ginger (DJ Swamp Princess.) We also had three hard-working production assitants, Sadie, Schaeffer, and Sophie.
Blotter Boyz plan to release all or a portion of their performance as a live album.
(Live Sessions is a show on KWVA every Sunday from 4pm-6pm during Fall, Winter and Spring terms. Bands and artists from Eugene and beyond are invited to perform LIVE as we turn our station into a DIY recording studio. Shows are often hosted by KWVA DJs, who interview the artists on-air. Live Sessions is produced and scheduled by the KWVA production department and it's hard-working assistants, with additional help from the KWVA Music department.)
