VB Story: Oregon vs LMU

Written by Wilder Lewis

The Oregon Ducks had their first round match up today against the Loyola
Marymount Lions today in the NCAA D1 Women’s Volleyball Championship at
home in Matthew Knight Arena. Oregon managed to get the win in straight
sets. This gets them through to the next round of the playoffs.

Oregon started things off exactly as expected as they took the first set 25 to 17. Oregon as a whole hit .433 in the first with the big stars of Colyer and
Nuneviller both grabbing 5 points. Although towards the end of the set the
Lions were able to fight for a couple late points going back and forth with the
Duck. This momentum led into the start of the 2nd second set as the Lions
were tied with the Ducks at 5 a piece early on.

After a small run by Oregon, LMU found themselves down early but kept it
close enough with the help of Awoleye and Booth they were able to keep up
with the Ducks through the middle of the set. Then the Ducks went on a
small run getting all the way to match point led by Nuneville and her 9 kills.
However the Lions went on a late 4-0 run causing Matt Ulmer to take his first
timeout of the match. Although in the end the Duck managed to escape
winning the second set 25-22.

The 3rd set started exactly how the second ended with a tight back and forth
brawl. Neither team would let the other take an outright lead until Oregon
were able to break out following a couple big points by Nuneviller who ended
the match with 13 kills and 11 digs getting another double double. This led to a big 4-0 run the ducks never looked back after that as they went on to win the set pretty easily 25-15.

Oregon face off against the 6 seed Arkansas Razorbacks at 7pm tomorrow in
Matthew Knight Arena where they look to further advance.
