Thurston HS FB | Colts Defeat Silverton 44-14, Reach Second Consecutive 5A State Championship Game

By Sam Greenville

The site was Autzen stadium as the undefeated #1 seeded Thurston Colts faced off against the 4th seeded Silverton Foxes in the Oregon 5A State Semi-final game. This game would end in a 30 point rout with Thurtson extending their streak of 40 plus points being scored for the 12th consecutive game. This juggernaut offense was helped by the likes of Wesley Kommer, who coming into the day had scored 10 touchdowns in the last two weeks of the postseason. Kommer’s dominance would continue in this game as the senior running-back would find the end-zone four more times while rushing for 194 yards. Following a Thurston fumble late in the second half, Silverton would bring it to within one score, but from there the Colts would shutout the Foxes 23-0 ending the season for this talented Silverton squad. Thurston advances to the 5A State Championship for the second consecutive year, and awaits the match-up between the 3rd seeded West Albany Bulldogs and 2nd seeded Crater Comets. Crater, having played Thurston this year, is the last opponent to hold the Colts under 40 points and their lowest margin of victory by 11. Regardless of which team advances, it should be a thrilling end to the football season for this Thurston Colts program.
