BSB | Pitching Struggles Continue, Ducks Blown Out for a Second Straight Night.

Written Story By Wilder Lewis

The Oregon Ducks faced off against the Washington Huskies in the second game of three in their final home series. Coming off of their defeat last night (14-5) the Ducks were looking to get back on a winning path ahead of Sunday’s game. However, things didn’t really start out well for the Ducks as Washington ripped off 9 runs in the first inning as all of their batters scored.

The Huskies were able to do this as they hit 4 straight singles off of Jackson Pace. This was followed by a batter being hit, two doubles, a walk, and an error. Eventually, the Huskies were up by seven with one left on base, and without even getting one out Pace’s night was done and Spoljaric came in to replace him. After giving up a two-run homer to the 9th batter of the night, DeCarlo. Spoljaric was able to get the 3 outs, sending cheers through the PK Park stands.

Oregon then got their chance to try and return some runs but couldn’t get anything going in the first couple of innings then in the bottom of the third Grant was able to break the ice for the Ducks hitting a solo shot to right center field. However, Washington quickly got out of the inning after this and then answered with another run of their own as Guerrero scored off a Simpson RBI double.

Just as it was continuing to look bad the bats started to get going for the Ducks in the bottom of the 4th as Walsh scored on a Grant single, and Thompson and Grant scored on a Nishida double. Although the high spirits didn’t last long as Spoljaric and Dallas gave up another combined seven runs.

Washington this time completed this feat thanks to 5 singles, 2 walks, and a wild pitch. This allowed the Huskies to gain a 17-5 lead going into the final stages of the game. Eventually, Washington and Oregon would both pick up one more in the 8th after going scoreless in the 7th. Oregon also grabbed a couple of garbage time runs in the 9th as the game was coming to an end making the final score 18-8.

The Duck’s bad streak continues as they have now lost 5 of their last 6 while their pitching still remains out of sorts as the absence of Jace Stoffal continues to hinder the Ducks.

The Duck’s next game will be tomorrow at 12 noon as they look to try and grab one game in off the Huskies as they close out their last home series.
