STORY: Oregon Baseball Walks Off in 11th to Sweep OSU

Story by: Dylan Reubenking

The 20th-ranked Oregon Ducks completed a three-game sweep over the 18th-ranked Oregon State Beavers with a 5-4 victory Sunday at PK Park.

Starting pitcher Brett Walker rolled through the Beavers rotation in the first six innings, allowing one run and two hits. In a 1-1 tie in the 7th, the Beavers scored three runs on three hits off Walker to take a 4-1 lead and send Walker to the dugout.

The Ducks rallied to tie the game in the eighth, scoring three runs on clutch at-bats from Aaron Zavala, Gabe Matthews, Sam Novitske, and true freshman Tyler Ganus. Ganus was struck by a pitch from Jake Mulholland to bring home the tying run.

It was a brilliant performance from the Ducks bullpen in relief of Walker. RJ Gordon, Isaac Ayon, Hunter Breault, and Decker Stedman combined for 4.1 scoreless innings to keep the game within distance for Oregon.

With two down in the 11th, Tristan Hanoian dropped a drag bunt for a single. Tanner Smith moved him into scoring position with a single. Eugene native Bryce Boettcher drove in the game-winning run with a ground ball error by the Beavers’ shortstop.

The win gives the Ducks a share of first place in the Pac-12. They will face the Portland Pilots on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
