SB | Bats heat up late for Oregon to propel them past Sacramento State

Story by: Ryan Milano

The Ducks were given an unexpected run for their money on Sunday morning against the Sacramento State Hornets but ended up closing out the game in run-rule walk-off fashion. Headed into the bottom of the 5th, the game was knotted at 0 behind two dominant pitching performances. Raegan Breedlove was filthy in the circle for Oregon, working through 5 shutout innings, allowing only 3 total baserunners. On the other side, Sac St. Freshman Kelsey Alcantara kept pace with the Ducks taking a shutout of her own into the bottom of the 5th frame.

In the 5th, it looked like Alcantara might get out of another inning, but Haley Cruse had different ideas. With 2 outs and a runner in scoring position, Cruse notched a single into right and opened the flood gates for Oregon. The Ducks capitalized on a 2-out rally off an Allee Bunker 2 RBI single to put up 3 runs in the frame.

The Ducks rode off that same momentum in the 6th. Mya Felder started the inning off with a solo shot to left-center field to give the Ducks a 4 run lead. After 3 consecutive Ducks loaded the bases for Alyssa Brito, she sent the Ducks home happy with a walk-off grand slam, her 7th HR of the season.

This win was the conclusion of the first chapter of Oregon’s season. The Ducks now head into Pac-12 play starting next weekend when Utah travels to the Jane.
