Story: Oregon Bullpen Struggles in 8-4 Loss to Seattle

Story by Alex Roth

The Seattle Redhawks defeated the Oregon Ducks by a score of 8-4 Sunday afternoon at PK Park. The Loss dropped the Ducks record to 2-2 and gave them a series split with the Redhawks for their first series of the season.

Oregon started off the game pitching well, with starter Cullen Kafka pitching 4 shutout innings and the Ducks jumping on top 1-0. However, the game changed in the fourth inning when reliever Isaac Ayon gave up 4 runs to Seattle in the top of the fifth to give the Redhawks a 4-1 advantage. Oregon would even up the game at 4-4 off of a walk with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 6th, but the Redhawks struck right back with four more runs in the top of the 7th.

The 4 run 7th inning surrendered by Ducks reliever Andrew Mosiello would be too much for the Ducks to overcome, as the score did not change the rest of the way. Oregon’s bullpen struggles ended up costing the Ducks the win despite a decent showing from the Duck’s bats on Sunday afternoon.

The Ducks will look for improved bullpen performance and a consistent offense with many quality opponents coming up. Oregon heads to Goleta, California to take on UC Santa Barbara this Friday at 3 p.m.
