Ducks Erase Early 2 Run Deficit, Win Second Game in a Row (3-2) Against Wolfpack

Written by: Sam Greenville

Oregon was able to grab their second victory of the season today at PK Park in the second game against the University of Nevada Reno Wolfpack. It looked like the Wolfpack were going to notch their first win of the season but following a two run double by Aaron Zavala in the 6th, the Ducks would take the 3-2 lead and ride it the rest of the way for their second consecutive victory. The Ducks took advantage of a routine pop fly error, followed by a walk to score the tying and winning runs. Zavala on his thought process at the plate said “It’s sort of a cliche mindset, but not worrying about the situation and just trying to do what you can for the team.” Nevada starting pitcher Jake Jackson would receive the loss in the stat column, however pitching 7 strong innings giving up three runs (one being earned). Wiley Tilley would be the lone member of the Wolfpack with an RBI, coming up with two on a double down the left field line to give Nevada Reno the early 2-0 lead. Brett Walker grabbed the win coming in three innings of relief for starting pitcher Peyton Fuller who was responsible for the two runs scored in his 5 innings pitched. Both teams had their opportunities to pad their leads at some point, but Oregon being the only one to capitalize on the situation.

The difference for the Ducks in this game was the relief pitching, coming in for 4 innings not allowing a run and not giving up a hit in the 8th or 9th. Manager Was had this to say about the pitching this afternoon “You got some young men taking the mound like they own it, they look prepared, tough… kinda guys you look at and say we’re gunna have our hands full.” Hits came in spurts for the Ducks and when asked about what could improve for Oregon he had this to note “One thing to improve on is the hitting, it hasn’t existed yet, but it was a clean pretty well played game.” Oregon will look for their third straight win and series sweep against the Wolfpack tomorrow at 1 p.m again at PK Park.
