MBB | Oregon Ducks outshine Memphis Tigers in the national spotlight

On a nationally televised broadcast Tuesday evening from the Moda Center for the PK Invitational, the 14th ranked Oregon Ducks were able to defeat the 13th ranked Memphis Tigers, 82-74. Facing a Tigers team that started with 5 freshmen, the Ducks experienced lineup gave them an edge, as the team was led by senior Shakur Juiston, who put together his first double-double with the team with 17 points and 10 rebounds, leading the team in both categories. He also contributed three assists and two steals, building off his solid performance in the Boise State game.

Memphis put together the top recruiting class in the nation, including the top recruit in center James Wiseman. The Ducks managed to limit WIseman by forcing two early fouls in the first half, which limited his minutes and kept him off the court mostly until crunch time in the second half. Oregon also made sure to limit his touches and didn’t allow any easy buckets for him. Oregon did struggle with turnovers, giving the ball away 18 times and allowing 25 points off turnovers. However, when it really mattered, the Ducks were able to focus in and secured the big win early in the season.

The Ducks play again on November 17th against UT-Arlington at Matthew Knight Arena, with tipoff scheduled for 5 pm.
