VB | #16 Oregon Volleyball Falls 3-1 Against #2 Stanford

The #16 Oregon Ducks (12-6, 5-3) fell to the #2 Stanford Cardinal (16-1, 8-0) by a score of 3-1 (25-16, 21-25, 17-25, 15-25). Oregon jumped out to a huge start on the Cardinal, earning a dominant set 1 win 25-16. Behind the crowd of Matthew Knight Arena and the fire in the eyes of the Ducks, it appeared we would have a real competitive match on Sunday. But then Stanford gutted out a 25-21 on the Ducks to even the match at 1-1. In set 3, the Cardinal found their groove as they went for a huge 8-0 run in the middle of the set. Oregon put together a little rally, but Stanford was too much to handle as they served 4 aces in that set. Stanford led 2-1 at that point, leading to their dominant set 4 win in which they completely outclassed Oregon. Kathryn Plummer of Stanford began to dominate midgame as she finished with with 19 kills on a .333 hitting percentage. Also for the Cardinal, reigning national player of the year Jenna Gray was huge with 41 assists and a .400 hitting percentage. For Oregon, August Raskie was one of the headliners in a true team effort with 44 assists. Lindse Vander Weide (13 kills) and Brooke Van Sickle (12 kills ) also led the way for Oregon today. Perhaps the most telling stat in this game was Stanford’s 10 service aces to just one for Oregon. Stanford hit .331 in comparison to the Ducks .289. Up next for Oregon is a road trip to Arizona to take on Arizona State 7:00 PM on Friday, and Arizona 11:00 AM on Sunday. Those two teams beat the Ducks earlier in the year at Matthew Knight Arena. Oregon (13-6, 6-3) remains tied for 3rd place in the Pac-12 conference with big games still to be played.
