BSB: Ducks Win Extra Inning Thriller Over USC

After the USC Trojans won Game 1 and the Oregon Ducks took Game 2, the rubber match Sunday afternoon was bound to be a good one and it was exactly that. Oregon starting pitcher Kolby Somers pitched 6.1 innings allowing 2 hits and no runs. The Ducks struck first in the bottom half of the first inning as Spencer Steer hit a sac fly to right field to score Jacob Goldfarb. In innings 2 through 9, the Ducks went ice cold going 2-22 from the plate. Their 1-0 lead lasted until the top of the ninth until Oregon relief pitcher Ryne Nelson gave up a Matthew Acosta single to CF to tie the game up at 1 a piece. The Ducks threatened in the bottom half, but could not push any runs across. However, in the bottom of the tenth inning, Ray Soderman laced a laser shot to the right field corner to score Daniel Patzlaff and walk off with a 2-1 win to earn their first Sunday win in Pac 12 play and clinch the series. The win moves Oregon to 21-20 and 8-13 in conference play. The Ducks will look to make it 3 in a row as they take on their rival, the Oregon State Beavers, Tuesday evening at 5:30 pm
